PROTECSOL®2, easy daily maintenance

Our technological innovation Protecsol²® has been specially designed to meet the hygiene requirements of certain environments (sanitary, school, etc.). It is a unique surface treatment, hardened by UV rays and with multiple advantages. Choose your floor with peace of mind.

As society ages, promoting healthy aging has become a pressing issue. In this context, there has been a growing focus on supporting individuals with dementia, with much reflection and discussion centered around this topic.

What is dementia?

Dementia is a syndrome that can manifest in various neurological diseases, with Alzheimer's disease being one of the most well-known. It is characterized by the gradual degeneration of specific neurons, leading to difficulties with memory, cognitive function, behavior, and performing everyday tasks.

Gerflor is part of this approach to support aging well by developing decorations and colors adapted to these diseases

Contrasting colors

The elements of the same area (floors, walls, accessories) must be of contrasting colors in order to improve the three-dimensional perception of the different spaces, thus encouraging movement. It is also important to take into account the light reflection index (LRV*) of the different elements. All the LRVs of Gerflor's ranges are available on our website and our communication tools. *LRV: Light Reflectance Value

"Soft" and little marked patterns

You should avoid patterns that are too strong or too busy, as well as black, which could lead to blocking reactions due to visual barriers. It is therefore advisable to prefer faded patterns. Many Gerflor decors and colors are available in plain or faint patterns, which are perfectly suitable.

Matte floors

In addition to the more realistic appearance, a matte floor is perceived as safer. Indeed, shiny floors can appear wet, making people with dementia hesitant and thus increasing the risk of falling. The latest generation of surface treatments developed by Gerflor (Protecsol® 2, EvercareTM in particular) make it possible to give products a matt appearance.

Acoustic comfort

It is necessary to privilege acoustic products which will allow the attenuation of the ambient noises and thus create a calmer and calmed atmosphere. Many Gerflor collections offer acoustic insulation. For example, Taralay Impression has an acoustic insulation of 19 dB (acoustic version) and 8 dB (compact version).

Gerflor has taken steps to ensure the validation and accreditation of our solutions, including Taralay Impression, by partnering with the Dementia Services Development Center (DSDC). The DSDC is an independent organization with international recognition, focused on advancing knowledge and expertise in supporting individuals with dementia, and improving their quality of life. Through this partnership, we aim to provide flooring solutions that meet the specific needs of individuals with dementia, while also contributing to a more supportive and welcoming environment for them.
