Gerflor invests in modern photovoltaic system at DLW Linoleum production site in Delmenhorst - Germany

As one of the world's leading manufacturers of resilient floor coverings, we are consistently committed to the highest environmental quality. With this in mind, the company is now installing a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system with more than 20,000 photovoltaic panels at the Delmenhorst site - where the particularly environmentally friendly DLW linoleum floors are produced.
A giant step towards completely CO2-neutral production and thus also another milestone in the history of the traditional DLW brand.

Environmentally friendly products and CO2-neutral production

Linoleum, which has been produced in Delmenhorst since 1882, is already regarded as a sustainable product. The material is composed of up to 98 % organic and mineral raw materials such as linseed oil, wood, limestone, jute and resin. The production of the DLW Linoleum flooring collections has also met the highest environmental requirements since 2020. In concrete terms, this means that the first phases of the "Cradle to Gate" product life cycle - from the cultivation of the raw materials to the end of the production process (modules A1-A3 of the EPD) - are already completely CO2-neutral.

Production process with green electricity and modernised heating system

As part of the project, a total of more than 20,000 photovoltaic modules with an output of 7.8 mWp will be installed on the factory premises in Delmenhorst in two construction phases.

    • First step: around 11,000 panels have been fitted on all suitable roof surfaces at the site
    • Second step: further installations on the ground to cover 100% of the demand with green electricity.

In the course of the comprehensive modernisation of the site, the heating process required for the 30-metre-high maturing chambers (where the linoleum hardens)  will also be produced in a more energy-efficient manner.
In addition to the modification and renewal of the heating system, we have also taken the idea of sustainability even further. The additional heating pipes required for the new system were taken from decommissioned maturing chambers, reprocessed and then re-installed. In the process, over 1,200 metres of heating pipes could be reused.
